The Lamborghini Countach is arguably one of the most iconic cars of all time. It’s first year of production was 1974 and its design was like nothing else seen on the road before.  It’s wedge shape stayed consistent throughout Lamborghini’s 16 years of production, and any Countach can be easily recognised from just it’s silhouette. Like any other piece of art (music, film, wall art etc.) Lamborghini was able to convey emotion to anyone in its presence, whether it be the driver or a bystander. The Countach oozes of its Italian passion. It’s a statement, an attitude, and an outfit. It stands for more than just a means of transportation which is why in the 80’s it’s poster was pasted on many teenagers walls, and today it remains a true icon.

Unlike other competitors, Lamborghini doesn’t rush to move on to their next generation of their flagship V12 model. Lamborghini produced the Countach for 16 years from 1974–1990. The car saw several mechanical and aesthetic tweaks over its production run. The final installment of the Countach was the 25th anniversary edition which was built in the final two years of production (1989 and 1990). The 25th is known to be the ‘drivers’ choice of Countachs as it saw all of the development changes for improved power and reliability. The 25th anniversary saw engineering improvements to allow the car to run cooler and be more comfortable in the cabin and therefore be more appealing to possible customers. Horacio Pagani was the man in charge of the bodywork tweaks for the 25th Anniversary Countach which stood for both form and function.

The raging bull emblem on the front of this car is a very accurate representation of how this car behaves when you are behind the wheel. Every aspect of the drive requires strength. The clutch and gear lever are very heavy, yet when the lever notches into gear you’ll always feel confident that the gear is fully engaged. The steering is a constant wrestling match. Although it is easy at center, you almost have to engage your core to tug the car around corners at both low or high speeds. There are many compromises a driver has to make when driving a Countach. It’s tight in the cabin from the moment you enter the car. The seat, steering wheel, and pedals are all offset from each other. The cabin gets very hot when the car gets up to operating temperature. All of the controls are heavy and stubborn to operate. Many journalists say “not to meet your hero” when referring to a Countach because of these reasons listed above, but in our opinion the car is beyond rewarding enough to forget about all of these minor imperfections. When listening to the V12s scream escalate up the rev range, and then shifting sternly but slowly to start another pull, it’s like a breath of fresh air, and the cars charm makes it worth all of the compromises.
