Description

1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL

The R107 series of SL’s holds a special place in history as an iconic luxury roadster. Today, the car sits as a reminder of a time where roadsters where highly sought after and recognized as automotive excellence.

Production for the R107 ran from 1971 to 1989 meaning this 89’ was built in the last year of production and is highly sought after as the last iteration of the R107 SL’s. The 560SL was the top trim and Mercedes-Benz was able to combine both luxury and performance by fitting the car with a large 5.6-litre V8 engine producing 272 hp. The engine had more than enough power for it’s day, but more importantly it matched the cars personality as smooth to operate and reliable.

The 560SL was also very technologically advanced for its day. The car was fitted with an ABS system, improved front suspension, and new brakes.

Not to sound cliché but, the cars design helps it to be recognized as a ‘classic’ at first sight. Just like it’s driving characteristics, the cars design has a perfect balance of sport performance and luxury. The car has minimal lines and sits with a low profile giving it a very sleek appearance. It’s chrome accents and retractable soft top add to the cars luxurious appeal. It’s always inviting you for a sunny day cruise just by looking at it.

We purchased this 560SL from its original owner in April 2023. The car lived with its original owner in Texas and is accompanied by a binder full of services records and documentation from new. It sits today with only 29,000 miles from new.

You certainly aren’t getting anywhere fast in this car, but that’s not what it’s about. The 560SL conveys a ton of character which is exactly what we look for in cars. It’s a vibe; one that makes you want to rest your elbow on-top of the door and enjoy the open air while appreciating some old school Mercedes engineering.
