The GTO name is sacred ground for Ferrari. The badge has only been attached to three cars in the manufacturers history; the 250 GTO, 288 GTO and the 599 GTO. The 250 GTO and 288 GTO were both homologation cars whereas the 599 GTO was not. Lots of controversy came from this as enthusiasts wondered if the car was worthy of wearing the prestigious badge, but if you have sat in the cockpit of the 599 GTO while it climbs through the rev range, it becomes crystal clear that Ferrari did not waste the GTO name on this car and it quickly changes the opinion of those who believe it is just another Ferrari.
Ferrari likes to refer to this car as a de-tuned 599XX rather than an upgraded 599 GTB. It’s power plant is a naturally aspirated 6.0L V12 producing 661 hp, 457 Ibs-ft torque. The car has one of the best single clutch gearboxes in any road car, which, in a good way, slams you into the next gear while you wring it out past 6000 rpm. The negative is that this car does not like to be driven slowly, the combination of the engine and gearbox at low rpm makes it feel as if the car is choking. It was designed to be leaned on, like a true race car and it was not designed for the kind hearted. Ferrari reserved the limited 599 units for it’s deemed “special customers” and they were very hard to get your hands on even if you wished for one. The majority of these cars ended up in collections instantly making the car an instant classic.
This 599 GTO is a heavily optioned example finished in Rosso Fuoco triple metallic paint. The car was originally delivered new by Ferrari of Ontario to it’s first owner and the car has remained in Ontario for it’s entirety. This GTO received its Classiche certification on February 15th of 2012, and it’s history is fully documented with all service records from new and has been maintained with a major service recently performed at the 4,341 km mark by Ferrari of Ontario.
