In the year 2012, for the first time in history, Shelby American attended the Detroit Auto Show to reveal a new car to the public, which was a limited production run of “50th Anniversary Super Snakes” to celebrate the companies 50th year of business. Shelby gave their customers the option to order the car with a 650, 750, or 800 horsepower output in coupe or convertible. Half of the production would leave the factory black with gold stripes, the other half, white with gold stripes. These gold stripes were to pay homage toward the companies significant golden anniversary. 

 

This particular car is a one owner, fully documented, black, convertible example developed and delivered at Shelby American’s head office in Las Vegas Nevada. Some cars take advantage of only wearing the Shelby name but that is not the case here. Although they planned on making one hundred 50th anniversary super snakes, Shelby produced only 53 units. Out of the 53 units produced, only 5 black convertibles were built, and this example was the only one built with the optional Eibach suspension making it a unique ‘one of one’ example. 

 

This example is equipped with a Kenne Bell whipple liquid cooled supercharger integrated with a 5.4L V8 tuned by Shelby to produce the full 800hp. The car is also fitted with a Borla exhaust system from the factory which amplifies the symphony as a constant reminder of the mass of power that is readily available with the curl of your toes. The interior is fitted with Recaro seats and two large 50th anniversary badges to ensure the driver knows that they are driving a piece of history. 

 

Along with the car comes a full book of documentation including original build invoices from Shelby American, certificates, and service records from new to accurately illustrate the history of the car. The car also comes with all Shelby museum delivery articles which include a 50th anniversary jacket, car cover, pen, padfolio, keychain, and briefcase.

 

Carroll Shelby said that “Few thought Shelby American would make it in the car business for 50 years”, and in 2012 they raised an 800 horsepower gold stripe champaign glass to all of those who doubted, cheers!
