The Shelby/Ford collaborations grew to be something truly special. The two icons first teamed up in 1962, and they still work together to this day to deliver great automobiles. Ford often uses the Shelby name to promote their high-performance mustangs. Due to this, the Shelby name has been somewhat diluted in today’s young generation. That is not the case here. The Shelby super snake is an example of what Shelby can do on their own when they borrow a Mustang, delete Ford, and build their own idea of a true muscle car. 

 

Here in Canada, Shelby American has licensed out a handful of shops to produce Super Snake conversions. Although it is truly licensed work, the cars do not come out the same as they do from Shelby’s very own Las Vegas factory. The mustang interior on the conversion cars is not replaced and Ford badges still remain all over the car. The cars built by Shelby American themselves go through a much deeper development process versus the conversion cars.

 

The 2014 Super Snake is derived from the 2014 Ford Shelby GT500. This GT500 was the last Mustang to have a solid rear axle and came out of the Ford factory with a LARGE 662hp. This is the identity for a true muscle car, and in 2015 Ford began to develop their Mustangs with independent suspension. Due to this, the Mustangs lost their identity as a muscle car and became a sports car, meaning, in our eyes, the last true muscle car Mustang is the 2014. 

 

This 2014 Shelby GT500 Super Snake was built by Shelby American at their own factory in Las Vegas Nevada. The car is equipped with $63,000 of Shelby upgrades; a wide-body, a Kenne Bell 850hp liquid cooled supercharger, upgraded Recaro interior, a Borla cat-back exhaust system, 3.73 gears, Shelby performance cooling package, Shelby 4 piston caliber brake system etc. This car is clearly no longer a mustang. It left the Shelby American factory to it’s first owner in 2014 before being brought up to Canada by us in February of 2017. The car sits here with only 1,118 miles and with FULL documentation including the original build sheets from Shelby American, certificate of authenticity and documents from our importing process. 

 

While behind the wheel, you’re never multi-tasking. The engine note, the supercharger whine, and the short throw shifter are constant reminders that you're playing with fire while even just cruising down the road. While under acceleration the car takes on a charge pushed by it’s rear wheels. Unlike other sports cars, this Super Snake does not feel light and dainty, it feels more like the brawler that would choose to just run right through you rather than be nimble. Every time you reach your destination and shut off the ignition, your hands shake of adrenaline and you're thankful you made it to your destination in one piece. This car is the King of muscle. It has one scary personality and it cannot be stressed enough that out of all of the cars that we have driven, no car requires as much respect and mental focus while behind the wheel.
