2018 Porsche GT3

Although supercars have their perks, they come with compromise. Sports cars on the other hand are designed to balance both the driving and practicality aspects of an automobile, and in our opinion, the Porsche 911 GT3 is at the top of the sports car food chain. Porsche has engineered an incredible balance of performance and drivability with the GT3 which makes it one of the most enjoyable drivers for the road. Porsche launched the 991 GT3 for the 2014 model year. It had a 3.8 litre naturally aspirated flat 6 engine and was only available with Porsches PDK transmission. After some motor issues and many complaints from enthusiasts stating that a “true drivers car” needs to have a manual transmission option, Porsche launched the 991.2 generation GT3. The 991.2 was given an upgraded 4 litre naturally aspirated motor and a manual transmission option.

The one driving a GT3 is driving the car simply to experience the benefits of a well engineered sports car, unlike some supercars which double as a status symbol. It takes a trained eye to notice a GT3 versus another 911 but the reward from the driver seat is immense. This naturally aspirated motor has so much character throughout its entire rev range, it’s punchy down low and works up to scream at the top of its lungs at its 9000 rpm redline. The car feels so planted at speed and its steering feel keeps you confident to carry speed through corners. That being said, this car is equally enjoyable to live with on longer commutes. Although the car is stiff, it’s not jarring. Of all of the cars we have been fortunate enough to drive, the GT3 delivers the most well-rounded driving experience and is the perfect balance of performance and usability for an enthusiast to enjoy.
